Romanian job market in 2024

Before you set your recruitment strategy for 2024, read the report from the largest job board in Romania!

eJobs Romania has prepared the eighth annual Review & Trends report and here you can explore key insights for recruiting in Romania in 2024. The report covers sought-after candidates, in-demand jobs, and industry-specific salary averages.

As a summary, 39.6% of the jobs posted last year targeted entry-level candidates, i.e. those who have between 0 and 2 years of experience. 28.4% were looking for candidates with an average level of experience (2-5 years) and 21% were also accepting candidates with no experience at all. 8.4% of the jobs were addressed to seniors, and 2.6% to managers. The percentages are based on a total of 370,000 jobs posted throughout the past year.

Candidates with a low level of experience were not only the most sought-after but also the ones who applied the most. More than half of the 11 million applications in 2023 went to entry-level jobs, of which 15.7% went to remote jobs and 1.7% to job offers from abroad.

The fields in which entry-level candidates applied the most were Retail, Call center / BPO, Services, IT / Telecom, Banking, Tourism, Advertising / Marketing / PR and the Food industry. The average net salary at the national level (for all fields) for those in the entry-level segment is 3,400 lei (683 euro), but their salary expectations go up to 4,500 lei (905 euro).

These are also the fields with the most job opportunities for those at the beginning of their careers or for those looking to enter a new field in which they may not have much experience. For many young people, these fields are considered as bridges to other professions, serving as a place where they can acquire their initial set of professional skills,” explains Roxana Drăghici, Head of Sales at eJobs.ro.

As for the jobs in high demand in 2023, regardless of the levels of experience, the list includes:

  • Driver, average net salary 3,800 lei per month (763 euro)
  • Medical assistant, 4,500 lei net (905 euro)
  • Call center operator, 2,800 lei (563 euro)
  • Accountant, 3,700 lei (743 euro)
  • Engineer, 4,800 lei (965 euro)
  • Economist, 4,500 lei (905 euro).

According to the data from Salario, eJobs.ro’s salary comparison tool, IT employees were, on average, the best paid in 2023, with 6,500 lei per month (1,306 euro). Those in project management and research/ development had an average salary of 6,000 lei per month (1,206 euro), those in middle management positions 5,500 lei (1,105 euro), while the average salary in Construction/ Installations was 5,000 lei per month (1.004 euro). The lowest averages were marked by those working in the beauty services sector: au pair/ babysitting/ cleaning (3,000 lei = 605 euro), office/ back-office/ secretariat (3,100 lei = 623 euro), manufacturing (3,300 lei = 663 euro), and tourism (3,400 lei = 683 euro).

“In 2023 we had 148,000 jobs with the salary listed on eJobs. These generally receive 40% more applications than those without, even though only 9% of companies had salary transparency as part of their policy at the beginning of last year and 34% were open to adopting it. These percentages will likely increase significantly in 2024, a year in which we will see much more pragmatism in the labor market, both on the part of candidates and employers,” says Bogdan Badea, CEO at eJobs Romania.
